Astra 2 is actually a group of 3 satellites all around the same position. Astra 2A, Astra 2B, Astra 2D and there is also another satellite very close; Eurobird 1 at 28.5º East. All 4 of these satellites carry a share of the Sky UK Broadcast package.
The footprints of the reception areas for the 3 Astra satellites can be seen on the Astra website, and the footprint for Eurobird 1 can be found on the Eutelsat website. Astra 2D's footprint is tightly focussed on the UK, while the others cover most of western Europe, as does the Eurobird satellite.
The further away from Britain your dish installation is, the bigger the dish required to receive the signal. In order to receive Sky UK in Cyprus, you need at least a 3 metre dish, and even with a 3 metre dish, there will be some channels from Astra 2D that you cannot receive.
Sky UK's policy is that it is illegal to broadcast their signals outside of the UK, however, there are ways of subscribing to Sky UK in Cyprus.
I've been doing some tests on signal reception with a 3 metre dish and 100 metres of cable. These are my Test Results on Sky reception in Paphos
The transponders on the 4 satellites in the Astra group all have different footprints. Here is a comprehensive list of the transponders and their footprints.
If you own a Sky Digibox, and you only use it to view Free to Air channels, then this LUser Guide is for you.
